Chongqing university of Posts and Telecommunications, founded in 1950, is one of the few universities that have been blue-printed and heavily supported by the State, it has grown into a prominent university acknowledged by its centre of excellent in information science and technology in and out of China.
The university covers an area of 630 acres with a building area of 600,000 square meters. There are over 20,000 students, including more than 3,000 postgraduates. It has a faculty of more than 1,600, and has 10 Fellows as the honorary or part-time professors from China Academy of Science and China Engineering Academy, in addition to 30 overseas prominent scholars as the visiting professors.
CQUPT boasts 11 Key Disciplines of provincial and ministry level, and 16 key laboratories, engineering research centres and humanities & social science bases. It offers 43 Undergraduate Programs and 22 master programs. In 2008, the university was authorized to confer doctor’s degrees in disciplines like Information and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, Control Science and Engineering, Electronic Science and Technology, Management and Engineering.
The university has been adhering to the ‘Opening up Policy’ and enrolls overseas students from all over the world including those from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. CQUPT has built well-established cooperative relations and links with over 30 prestigious universities, famous enterprise and scientific institutes from such counties as USA, Russia, UK, Italy, Germany, Canada, Korea and so forth. It has also successfully played host to many international academic conferences, and attracts overseas statesmen, business elites, eminent scholars and experts, to lecture or visit.
